Leadership Spotlight - Anthony Carpenter

Anthony is a Director based in the Charleston, WV office.  He had been with Gibbons & Kawash since graduating from West Virginia State University in 2007 and then joined BE as a Senior Manager in the assurance area.  In his role as Director, he manages teams to complete assurance engagements and provide excellent service to our clients.

He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and a member of the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA), Charleston Chapter of the West Virginia Society of CPAs, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

We interviewed Anthony to get to know him, outside of his profession, and we were surprised to learn that when he was younger and more adventurous, he went skydiving.

Where are you from and where did you grow up?

I grew up just outside of Charleston, WV.

I like to watch sports and movies and spend time with my wife, Jennifer, and our 10-year-old daughter, Lilly.

What's the next place on your travel bucket list and what will you do there??

Hawaii

What's the last book you read or what is your favorite book/series you ever read and why?

The last book I read was Recursion, by Blake Crouch. It's a trippy time-travel thriller. I enjoyed it.

What is one food you can’t live without and why??

Pizza, because....pizza.

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring with you?

How about an airplane, a pilot, and a nice adult beverage to enjoy on the flight home.

If you starred in your own hero action movie, what would be your superhero name and superpower?

It would be great to have the powers of the Flash. I could get so much more done.

Why did you choose a career in public accounting?

Initially I chose public accounting to get experience and a diverse view of various industries to see what I might like. I have stayed in public accounting, because it challenges me and I get to help people. There are always new clients, accounting standards or new challenges with existing clients to keep things interesting. The thing I find most fulfilling is helping our clients or my coworkers.
