Lee joined the BE team in January 2022 and serves as the firm’s Business Valuations practice leader out of the Harrisonburg, VA office.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree in economics from Furman University and his MBA in Accounting and Finance from Vanderbilt University. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and is a member of the Furman University Endowment Consulting Group.
We interviewed Lee to really get to know him, outside of his profession, and we were surprised to learn that he is a descendant of Francis Scott Key, who wrote the poem that later become known as "The Star-Spangled Banner"!
Where are you from and where did you grow up?
I grew up on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
What are some of your hobbies?
Any time I can spend with my two boys is top on my list. We enjoy camping and exploring nature together. I also enjoy coaching their youth sports, reading, fishing, golfing, and exercising.
What do you consider your best quality or trait?
I have a strong sense of duty, a motivating responsibility to go beyond what is simply expected.
What is the best advice you ever received and from who?
One of my mentors taught me to always study failure. Then conduct myself in a manner to avoid the errors of commission that bring about the worst-case scenario.
If you could be a superhero what would be your superpower?
I'm not sure it would be considered a superpower to most people but in my case, I'd like the ability to sit still!
What is your favorite food?
I go back to my Southern roots and there's nothing better than fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans, collard greens, and cornbread.
What famous figure (living or dead) would you most like to meet and why?
I'd love to meet David Attenborough. His commitment to life-long learning is inspiring and resonates well with me.
What do you think is your biggest contribution to the Brown Edwards team?
My extensive investment and finance experience complements well the firm's deep accounting and tax expertise.
