She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), and the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA).

We interviewed Amy to get to know her outside of her profession, and we were surprised to learn that her first time flying was on a private jet with Miss America to go to a racing banquet in Cleveland, Ohio... and flying hasn’t been the same after that.

Where are you from and where did you grow up?

I was born in Roanoke and have lived in Roanoke my entire life. I even attended Roanoke College.

What do you like to do in your free time and who do you like to spend it with?

In my free time I enjoy traveling and exploring different cities and going to concerts with my husband Mike.  I love getting together with my family for holidays, birthdays or just random cookouts.  I have also had a love for photography, which my dad introduced me to, since I was a teenager.  I later took a photography class in college and spent hours in the dark room developing film and processing photos.  I have since transitioned from film to digital and look for any opportunity to go places and take pictures.

What's the last book you read or what is your favorite book/series you ever read and why?

I am currently reading the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, which is an historical, sci-fi adventure series that contains 9 books to date.  I don’t have a lot of free time to read so it has taken me a couple of years to get through 2 and a half books.  At this rate, I’ll be working on this series for a while.

I have always wanted to go to Hawaii and am planning a trip there one day.  I am still researching which islands and sites to go to and am open to suggestions.  In the meantime, my husband and I have a trip planned to Costa Mesa, CA for a Porsche car show this Spring which will provide me lots of opportunities to take photos and explore the beach and maybe even go to Disneyland.

There is not one specific food that I cannot live without.  I love most foods and love trying new dishes.  It is actually easier for me to say what food I could live without and that would be anything with coconut or raisins.

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring with you?

As much as I enjoy tropical islands, I don’t think I would be a great survivalist living off of the land so I would take a fully charged Satellite phone to call for help, sunscreen and water.

Why did you choose a career in public accounting?

I took accounting classes in high school and knew then that was what I wanted to study in college.  It’s just a subject that clicked with me and I actually enjoyed it.  I have always been in public accounting and love being able to work on so many different types of engagements and with different clients.  It rarely gets boring and there is always something to learn.
