Richmond Office Partners with Local Nonprofit Group

Brown Edwards’ Richmond office collaborated with local nonprofit, SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now), to gather items needed for their weekly children’s groups, preschool, and Child Advocacy Center.

SCAN is an organization that is dedicated solely to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in the Greater Richmond area. Its mission is to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect throughout the Greater Richmond area by protecting children, promoting positive parenting, strengthening families, and creating a community that values and cares for its children.

Employees have been collecting items such as snacks, arts & craft supplies, and COVID supplies including disinfecting wipes, gallon Ziploc bags, etc. over the past few weeks. This service project came about through our Richmond’s office fun committee, a group of staff members who plan social/service project events for all office employees.

One of the fun committee members, Catherine Brooks, a Manager in the Richmond office, shares why they choose to work with SCAN,

“I was made aware of the SCAN organization in college, when a fellow student told a very sad story of losing a nephew to child abuse.  That story stuck with me and I never forgot it.  SCAN was able to help that family work through and deal with their tragedy.  SCAN’s goal is not only to support victims and their families, but to promote positive parenting and strengthen families which is a worthy cause and I am happy we are able to support this organization and their mission.”

SCAN is still in need of various items to be used for their onsite programs. You can find their wish list and the location to drop off donations here.
