Leadership Spotlight - Becky Gehl

Becky is a Partner in the Virginia Beach, VA office.  She joined the Brown Edwards team in 2025.  She started her career as a staff accountant with DesRoches & Company and became a partner in 2019.  She has spent nearly 30 years developing her career and specializing in the CIRA industry. 

Where are you from and where did you grow up?

I grew up in a very small town in upstate New York in the Adirondack mountains. Shortly after I graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, I moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia.

What do you like to do in your free time and who do you like to spend it with?

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I love going to the beach and getting out kayaking, playing pickleball and walking my dog Ollie.

What's the last book you read or what is your favorite book/series you ever read and why?

I am currently enjoying working my way through The Bible.

What's the next place on your travel bucket list and what will you do there??

Next on my bucket list is a trip to either Greece or Colorado, hopefully sometime this year.

If you starred in your own hero action movie, what would be your superhero name and superpower?

My superhero name would be Copycat and I would have the ability to clone myself and be in multiple places at the same time. I so wish this was possible some days.

What is one food you can’t live without and why??

One food I can't live without would be cheese. I love all kinds of cheese!

If you knew you were going to be stranded on a deserted island, what three things would you bring with you?

I would bring my family (I’m going to count that as one), coffee of course, and a kayak!

Why did you choose a career in public accounting?

I chose a career in public accounting because I always loved working with numbers.
